Digital society requires a strong backbone. A digital signature framework, as proven by the Estonian example, is its key element. If Czechia is to become the digital champion of the CEE, it has to build it, and fast. There is a challenge, however – this kind of backbone of digital society cannot be built only by government or one company, it has to be built by society itself. Can big banks, telcos, development companies and government all come together?

The pace of change has never been as fast as now and technological advances are seen as the solution to our ever-changing world. People, as integral members of nature, have always relied on their natural surroundings to inspire innovative solutions. Humans as a species are not alone in using and developing tools to capture competitive advantage, although the marvels of some highly advanced tools and technologies may ironically threaten our source of inspiration. This begs for a holistic approach that supports humanity’s advancement within the context of our resource limitations. This talk will highlight some of CEITEC’s technological advances and showcase how the laws of nature, as well as nature’s diversity, are crucial drivers of our inspiration.

We will introduce a unique project of the composition From the Future World, which was created by artificial intelligence based on a fragment of the unfinished composition of Antonín Dvořák. The project was created in cooperation with Komerční banka as a supporter of classical music and PKF – Prague Philharmonia, a world-renowned Czech orchestra. The goal of the project was to demonstrate that artificial intelligence can be used creatively. The composition represents a piece of art intented for listeners to enjoy and, at the same time, a piece of puzzle which helps us answer many questions about the relationship between man and AI.

Everyone with access to the internet and electricity can essentially print money today. Blockchain is quickly making its way into new areas, shedding light on hidden algorithms and systematic fraud in areas ranging from social media to financial markets and state administration. But what about negative aspects like energy consumption associated with cryptocurrency mining? Will electricity infrastructure adapt to these new requirements? Are we ready to move away from fossil fuels and other dangerous power sources to renewable ones? And most importantly, will blockchain find its feet as a safe and sustainable anchor in the energy world? Will physical kWh become the new gold standard backing cryptocurrencies? Let’s explore these issues from the perspective of the electricity market.

In mobility, ‘the winner takes it all’ tactics works only for a limited period. Adding more cars and couriers to boost growth in ride-hailing, food-delivery, e-commerce delivery or sharing only works up until the moment our streets get clogged. Making all the mobility businesses cooperate towards a more suistainable city traffic is the key to livable cities. So where is the money in cooperation?

The Autonomous Technology revolution is at our doorstep, and flying drones seem to be the most exciting part of it. Today, drones are mostly carrying sensors that record and scan the earth’s surface, but soon enough they will be used for delivering physical objects from place to place, faster and cheaper, with a great impact on our lives, improving medical aid and other time-critical supply, reducing traffic and actually boosting up the pace of the logistics supply chain, from the factory’s production lines all the way to our homes. The amazing future is just around the corner.

Even though construction represents 10% of the global economy and $10.6 trillion and , it is the second least digitized industry in the world. How artificial intelligence can help drive efficiency in construction is still in its very early stages with very few commercial applications world wide. ArtificiaL Intelligence Construction Engineering, or ALICE for short, was born out of PhD research at Stanford University and has developed the first artificial intelligence parametric simulator for construction that can generate millions of valid ways to build a given project. It is being deployed on some of the worlds largest projects by top construction companies such as AF Gruppen in Norway and DPR in the USA. ALICE typically saves 14.7% of construction labor costs and 17.3% of construction duration.

The medicine should not be seen as an individual health service helping today’s patient to survive, but as a discipline dynamically extending its potential to identify and fight challenges and threats of tomorrow. Contemporary (bio)medicine is the crossroad of cell and molecular biology, material science, medicinal chemistry, mathematics, bioinformatics, imaging methods, telemedicine, artificial intelligence, etc., but also a meeting field with humanities and social sciences. Thus, the integration of technological, ethical and economical ways and means can provide keys for “sustainable survival” of both the individual patient and the community as a whole.

Fashion as status symbol has always contributed to the way on how we perceive ourselves and convey our inside to the outside. In traditional means fashion was considered art, designed to convey a certain lifestyle that was linked to exclusivity. The more we have the possibility and freedom to re-invent fashion, through technology, new business models, shifting the position along the value chain, the more power is in the hands of the customer. Customer focus is not limited to convenience, personalized designs and uniqueness, but also a way on how the shopping, renting and service can be bridged to the increasing isolation in the cities. Circular economy of fashion and ‘on demand’ creates another challenge and opportunity at the same time on how to link both worlds. The rise of rental and second hand fashion platforms, solves the problem only to a certain extend. While solving one problem of waste, overproduction and introducing circular economy models to fashion, we are creating another gap, which is castrating our cities culture, economy and the quality of life. The lack of real-life social contacts and the castration of cities, demands for new business models and solutions and the combination of how to bridge on- and offline. When fashion stores disappear restaurants, bars will follow. In my talk I’d like to take the audience on a journey on how this future of fashion is multidimensional, provides a huge potential for service offerings in future mobility and can transform our society.

We all know that muscles are proteins, energy is sugar and fat is, well, fat. But what about glycans? Most people never heard of them, and still, they are as much an important part of our lives as the rest of these substances. They can tell us what blood group we have, what kind of flu are we susceptible to or where a cancer cell begins to metastasize. Are we able to use them to our advantage, let´s say for early cancer detection?
